The relationship between the Shinobu Patchwork Association from Fukushima, Japan and Illawarra Quilters Inc. began in 2019. Over the years some beautifully handcrafted items have been exchanged and exhibited.

The Shinobu ladies are working on small pen cases and coin purses using the 'heri' or 'shoulder' of tatami mats! The material is extremely durable and even water resistant.
